Default Disappearing Footers

Chances are you have a section break somewhere on page 2. Try putting a
temporary manual page break (Ctrl-Enter) in near the top of page 2. Do you
now have a footer?

Robert,

I'm saying that the area for the footer isn't there (on that particualr
page). The page above Page 1) is a different section and header/footer
are
clearly visible. The below (page 3), is a different section and
header/footer are also clearly visible. When I go to the second page,
only
the header is visible. The area for the footer is totoally empty. It's
like
a big empty space.

I support a DoD agency and working on a Word document that complies
with that
agency's guidelines for formatting. Part of that formatting requires
differing page numbers, based on the content of that page. This
requires the
use of sections, in some cases, a new section for every page.

"View Headers and Footers" is turned on, so I can edit the header and
footer
as required for each section".

Since footers are different for each section, the "link to previous" is
turned off.

Here's the problem. Due to numerous editing changes over the past view
months (page added/deleted), I've encountered a situation where a
footer
disappears completely. Remember "View Headers and Footer" is still
turned
on. I'll scroll up to a previous section, the footer is there. I'll
scroll
down to the next section and footer is completely gone. Scroll down to
the
next section, and the footer is again visible.

Are you saying that the footer area there is _empty_ or just not there?
If you haven't already, tick Tools | Options | View: Text boundaries on
and see if there's no area (that would really be a novum for me, and I'd
read it as a strong indication of document corruption).

So what causes the footer to disappear? On that page, in that section,
the
header is visible and can be edited...just the footer has gone "poof".
gone.

I've tried deleted the section break in that portion of the document
and
reinserting the section break...same problem.

Which section break exactly did you delete: the one before or after this
section?
