Odd that there's no help for the GoTo dialog, given that this isn't
obvious. (At least, clicking the ? in that dialog only provides help for
Find and Replace. Searching for help on Go To only provides help on going
to a specific bookmark.)

It's actually the other way around. I don't know the section number, nor
do I know the page number within the section; I only know the absolute
page number in the document. Without regard to sections, I'm trying to
get to the 51st page in the entire 363-page document.
I just tried typing 51/363 in the Goto dialog and Word said it was not a
valid number.

Your question was complicated enough for me to understand, how do you
expect Word to know? So you have to tell Word the section as well as the
page number. This is the same for printing parts of documents too.
