Are you drawing in the canvas? If not, you probably don't need the canvas.
You can disable it on the General tab of Tools | Options.

something, Word crashes, closes precipitously... or makes a clicking
noise
and stops responding.

any incident, then when I click to open a new document it opens one

spend 20 years in meditative silence contemplating the nature of the

or whether to use mail merge or not before I will be initiated into
