With some skill and plenty of time, you could probably replace the text in
the image with PhotoShop.
With less skill you could place a text box over the image with the much
cheaper SnagIt (try the demo - www.techsmith.com).
You may even be able to put a text box over the offending text in Word and
fill it with your new text.

group; there are several images in the txt graphs, that I've been
able to translate
since the 'edit picture' option is available - now I've come across
others where this option is not available, I guess this means that
they are imported images - does this mean that it's useless trying
to find a means of modifying the text (to translate it)

Yes, you should get a decent graphics program and work on them in
that. But this may also not be able to handle the text as a separate
entity from the rest of the picture...
