Marilyn doesn't want to "step back through the records." She has a (Letter?)
merge that includes a numbered list. As each new "letter" is created, the
numbered list continues the numbering of the previous list, so that the
first letter, for example, has 1, 2, 3, the next has 4, 5, 6, and so on. I
don't know how this could be handled, but that's the issue, I believe.

Text boxes are in the graphics layer of the document and unlikely to be
seen
by the merge. You need to use frames or table cells instead. As for your
list issue, you would need to explain better what you are trying to do,
however note that a merge starts at the beginning of the data file and
continues to the end. It cannot step back through the records.

Is there a way to merge a document that has a numbered list in a text
box to start over at the beginning of the next document?
