You can change the character and paragraph formatting of index entries
by modifying the index styles; that way, modifications will be
preserved as you update the index.

Index page numbers don't match the document page number or the Table
of
Contents numbers. The index is increasing the page number by one ,
so the
information is on Page 23, TOC number is 23 but the Index is Page

selected the show/hide button, pressed F9, all section breaks are
correct and
still nothing happens. When you press F9, the formatting disappears,
