Default email merge

OK, in that case I do not know what is wrong, but:
a. did you restart Word?
b. better, did you restart Windows?
c. which version of Windows are you using?
d. which e-mail client are you using?
e. is the e-mail client correclty set up in Internet Explorer, as suggested
by the original responses in this thread? (Just checking!)

I followed the instructions, but email is still not an option. When I
click
on "Tools" and the "Letters and Mailngs," I have a choice between
"Letters,
Envelopes, Labels, or Directory." Shouldn't there be an "email" option?
I'll
put what I have in the "Windows Messaging Subsystem" folder.
(Default) REG_SZ (value not set)

CMC REG_SZ 1

CMCDLLNAME REG_SZ mapi.dll

CMCDLLNAME32 REG_SZ map32.dll

InstallCmd REG_SZ rundll32 setpapi,
InstallHnfSection MSMAIL 132 msmail.inf

MAPI REG-SZ 1

MAPIXVER REG_SZ 1.0.0.1

OLEMessaging REG_SZ 1

No. I am not sure which detailed explanation you mean, because I have
posted
reasonably detailed replies to all your messages so far, and I can see
them
all in this message thread. I have reposted the link to my website
article,
and my most recent reply below. If this message does not contain what you
need, ask again.

1. My website page is at:-

http://tips.pjmsn.me.uk/t0002.htm

2. My most recent message replied to your

" so it should look like this?"

and said:

I believe so, except...
(a) the REG_5Z are actually REG_SZ.
(b) The capitalisation of OLEmessaging should be OLEMessaging (capital
M)
but I doubt if that makes any difference
(c) My InstallCmd shows

InstallCmd REG_SZ rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection MSMAIL 132
msmail.inf

In other words, it is "setupapi" rather than "setupap", and
"InstallHinfSection" rather than "Install-in/Section"

However, the InstallCmd value is the one that most likely needs to vary
from
system to system.

(default) REG_5Z (value not set)
InstallCmd REG_5Z rundll32 setupap,Install-in/Section MSMAIL
132.msmail.inf
MAPIX REG_5Z 1
CMCDLLNAME32 REG_5Z mapi32..dll
CMCDLLNAME REG_5Z mapi.dll
CMC REG_5Z 1
MAPIXVER REG_5Z 1.0.0.1
OLEmessaging REG_5Z 1

Yes, except in step (c) use MAPI, then CMCDLLNAME32, then
CMCDLLNAME,
then
CMC, then MAPIXVER, then OLEMessaging

on step D, put 2,3,4

No...
when you put MAPI in step (c), put 1 in step (d)
when you put CMCDLLNAME32 in step (c), put mapi32.dll in step (d)
when you put CMCDLLNAME in step (c), put mapi.dll in step (d)
when you put CMC in step (c), put 1 in step (d)
when you put MAPIXVER in step (c), put 1.0.0.1 in step (d)
when you put OLEMessaging in step (c), put 1 in step (d)

Okay got that done. . .

so with the following, do steps a,b,c then on step D, put 2,3,4
for
CMCDLLNAME, CMC, MAPIXVER, and OLEMessaging?

CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
CMCDLLNAME=mapi.dll
CMC=1
MAPIX=1
MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1
OLEMessaging=1
"Peter Jamieson" wrote:

Yes, select the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem

Then, to insert the MAPIX value (for example)
a. Right-click and slect New|String value. A new REG_SZ value is
created
with name "New Value #1"
b. You should be able to overtype the name with MAPIX (unless
you
have
already created that value
c. Double-click the MAPIX value. A dialog box appears
d. type the value you need, in this case 1, and click OK.
e. You should see a line under "Windows Messaging Subsystem"
with
something
like

MAPIX REG_SZ 1

If you are uncertain because you have done all that and the merge
to
e-mail
options are still greyed out, then something else is probably
wrong
(and
in
that case, I do not know what it might be).

I'm sorry I'm asking all these questions. I just want to make
sure I'm
doing
it right. I need to put these under windows messaging
subsysten,
right?
MAPI=1
CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
CMCDLLNAME=mapi.dll
CMC=1
MAPIX=1
MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1
OLEMessaging=1

I have windows xp
"Peter Jamieson" wrote:

What name?

I mean the names and values as in step (b):

MAPI=1
CMCDLLNAME32=mapi32.dll
CMCDLLNAME=mapi.dll
CMC=1
MAPIX=1
MAPIXVER=1.0.0.1
OLEMessaging=1

i.e. the first name is MAPI, and the value is 1
the second name is CMCDLLNAME32 and the value is mapi32.dll
etc.

Which version of Windows are you using?

I just tried again and now it's letting me do it. I am the
administrator
so
I don't know what was going on Friday. before I proceed I
want
to
describe
what I have in these files. In the windows messaging
subsystem
folder,
on
the right-hand side of the window, there are (default)
REG_5Z
(value
not
set)
and InstallCmd REG_5Z rundll32 setupap,Install-in/Section
MSMAIL 132
msmail.inf

Back on the left-hand side of the window, under the windows
messaging
subsystem there is a MSMapiApps. If I click on that, on the
right-hand
side
of the window it has (default) REG_5Z (value not set),
choosusr.dll
REG_5Z,
inetsw95.exe REG_5Z, and MAP1 REG_5Z

Your directions say (I'm on letter G and H in your
directions)
to
name
as
above . What name? and what value?

I just checked again here and it seems OK, so...

....it is possible that you do not have permission to
update
this
particular
part of the regiistry, e.g. if you are not logged in with
Administrator
permissions. That would be quite likely if your machine is
on
a
network
and
maintained by someone else - in that case you would need to
contact
them
and
ask them to sort this out for you.

Yes, for Word 2003 I believe it's the registry you need
to
fix
rather
than
WIN.INI.

It may be easier to import the necessary values into the
registry -
there's
now a page at

http://tips.pjmsn.me.uk/t0002.htm

which covers the existing ground and provides the
contents
of a
suitable
..reg file for copying/pasting into a Notepad file.

However
from one of his earlier posts -

You will need to edit the registry. Proceed with
caution!

In your Windows folder, locate and run regedit.exe. If
you're
on
an
older
version of Windows you might need to use regedt32.exe.

Look for a key called

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mi*crosoft\Windows
Messaging
Subsystem

I would be surprised if it was not there in recent
versions of
Windows,
but if it is not, add it.

If it is there, I would expect to see
a. A subkey called MSMapiApps
b. A number of "values" with the same names as are in
the
above
list -
MAPI, MAPIX etc.
c. An additional value called InstallCmd

If you cannot see the values, you need to add them.
For
each
of
the
values in the above list
d. Right click "Windows Messaging Subsystem" and
select
New|String
Value.

Note that although some of these items have numeric
values,
they
