Okay, I deleted the mail section in the win.ini file. Do I need to delete
the keys I already put in the reg file? Also, do I need to make a new key
and call that mapix.reg? I would like some more details before I proceed.

It appears that exactly one value in the registry makes Word display the
relevant e-mail option, and that is the MAPIX item. So just in case there
has been any miscommunication, one last thing you could try is to edit copy
the following text into a .reg file (let's call it mapix.reg) and use the
File|Import menu option in the registry editor to import the value.

The file is as follows - copy/paste it into a Notepad file. There should be
4 lines. The second line is blank.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows Messaging Subsystem]
"MAPIX"="1"

Here, I usually have a full version of Office including Outlook, which may
be what is causing the difference. Unfortunately, although it is clear that
Word looks at the MAPIX option, I do not know what else it checks before
displaying the relevant options.
