You can set any indent to any precise amount (displayed as you drag) by
pressing Alt while dragging. And after you get the paragraph the way you
want it, you can use "Update style to match selection" in the Styles pane.

True, but then you can only use the detents available, and it won't
help you if you want a whole Style that way, which is probably what
she wants in the long run.

Find the "Format Paragraph" pane. (If you have a Ribbon, it's the tiny
arrow at the lower right corner of the "Paragraph" group on the Home
tab.)

On the Indents and Spacing tab, the second bunch of stuff is called
"Indentation." In the middle is a menu called "Special." From it,
choose "Hanging," and say how much you want it to be indented from the
first line of the paragraph. (The indentation of the first line of the
paragraph is set by the number to the left labeled "Before text.")

If you want a Style to have a hanging indent, you'll find exactly the
same panel inside the Style panel, under Format Paragraph.
