Default Where are templates I've created?

Thank you for your response. I haven't tried your suggestions yet, but I
shall give them a try.

In regard to the shortcut, I seem to recall that in Word 97, a shortcut in
the templates folder gave me quick acess to alternative folders.

Thank you again.

Sorry. You said you had designated such folders. I didn't understand this to
mean that you had designated this one particular folder as both of these.
You should not have both of these the same. The user templates folder should
be unique to each user. The workgroup templates folder is for templates that
are shared or are intended to be shared. I suspect that your problem may
arise from having designated both the user and workgroup templates folder as
the same folder, but perhaps not. Note, unless there is a very good reason
to do otherwise, I would not have your user templates folder on a network
drive.

You talk about a shortcut you've created and I don't understand what that
has to do with this.

If you look at http://addbalance.com/word/download.htm you will find an
Add-In (FileNewDialog) that gives you quicker access to your templates
(restores the ability to get to the dialog directly).

Take a look at the article on Templates for more. If you have properly
designated a user or workgroup templates folder, and you put a template in
that folder (not in a sub folder) it will show up under the general tab on
the FileNew dialog.

Thank you for replying. As I mentioned in my initial message, the folder
is
designated both as my user templates folder and my workgroup templates
folder.

Are your custom templates in a folder designated as your user templates
folder? as your workgroup templates folder? in a sub-folder? Or are they
in
a different folder outside of those two folders?

In Word 2003, I store my templates in a custom folder on a separate
drive.
I
have designated the drive and folder path under tools options file
locations (for both user templates and workgroup templates).

When I save a new template, I have no problem storing it in this
folder,
as
it shows up as the default "Save in:" folder when I specify "Save as
type:
Document Template (*.dot)".

However, when I try to create a new document from templates "On my
computer..." my custom templates are not among those listed. The
shortcut
(to
my custom template folder path) I have created in "C:\Documents and
Settings\[user]\Application Data\Microsoft\Templates" does not seem to
be
of
any help.

I would appreciate any suggestions that may be of help.
