Default divide a page in two

It depends to some extent on the version of Word you have. If you have Word
2000 or above, use the "2 pages per sheet" option in the Page Setup dialog
(*not* the one in the Print dialog). This gives you two logical pages per
sheet; you can treat each one as an individual page, with page borders, page
numbers, etc., if needed. This is the most flexible option, especially since
it allows you to divide the page horizontally or vertically.

If you have Word 97 or earlier, or if you want more than two sections,
you'll need to use columns or a table. As has been pointed out elsewhere,
only a table is really satisfactory for evenly dividing a page vertically,
but it you want to divide it horizontally, columns are more flexible because
you can put anything (including tables, graphics, and the like) in the
column.

If you are planning to cut the page in half, you need to set the space
between columns equal to the sum of the left and right margins so that the
column content will be centered on half the page. If you use a table, the
easiest way to achieve the horizontal or vertical centering on half the page
is to add a spacer column or row with width set to the sum of the left and
right margins. Or you can set margins to 0" and use cell margins instead
(but Word will complain that you're outside the printable area).
