Default print "selection" option is greyed out in Word 2007

How are you going about printing the document? AFAIK, There is no setting in
Word that forces Spell Check prior to printing. Are you using some sort of
Print macro that includes Spell Check?

That would explain all the behavior you're reporting. What happens if you
click the Office Button & select the Print command there?

And Yes, if you select text, launch Spell Check then Cancel the Spell Check
the text does not remain selected. If you complete the Spell Check
(Ignore/Change/Add doesn't matter) the selected text will remain selected &
the Selection option will be available in the Print Dialog.

Okay. So now I feel really stupid. If I allow Word to spell check instead
of cancelling that function, I have the option to print the selection. Is
there a way to turn of the auto spell check feature when I want to print?

Obvious question €¹ Did you actually select a range of text before going into
the Print dialog? The option is only available if content is selected.
