There is not. Once the document is open, use:

Tools Templates and Add-Ins...

Attach the normal.dot template to the document. Be sure that the box to
update styles is _not_ checked. Thereafter, it will open normally. Your
client could do this before sending you the file if they are that
considerate of your time.
