Default flip a textbox upside down using "draw" - "flip" greyed out???

You can do that with WordArt... just drag the controls so that you get
normal text instead of stylized text.

Or, perhaps simpler (although the quality can vary) is to copy the original
textbox to the clipboard, then use Edit - Paste Special to paste it as a
picture, then drag/rotate the picture as desired.

so there's no way to have some of your text appear upside down in one
place
on a page, and right side up on the same page (say in a separate column)??

Text boxes can't be rotated or flipped. You can add text to AutoShapes &
Flip/Rotate them, but the text in them will not be affected.
