Default Opening exsisting document opens document with new name

What reregistering does is reestablish Word's ownership of the .doc and .dot
file types and determine the appropriate actions for them. In Windows
Explorer, right-click on a .doc file. Which action is boldfaced? If it is
New rather than Open, then this is the problem. Your IT department surely
knows how to correct this.

Whatever registry changes what the re-register was supposed to have made

did
not work. Does anyone know what specific registry setting(s) we should

look
for? Deskside support indicated that they uninstalled Word and

reinstalled
but I think these registry settings are still hanging around.....

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The solution is still the same; the file action for .doc in the Registry

has
been changed from Open to New. You must reregister Word as instructed.

THANK YOU FOR THE REPLY....CLOSE....SO CLOSE.... This is an existing

file
created by another Word97 user. The file opens correctly, with the

correct
file name, when Word97 is already running. When you chose the file

from
within explorer...it opens with the Document#....as if it were a new

document.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!

The default action in the Windows file association for .doc files
is probably set to "new" instead of "open". Try re-registering
Word as described at
http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErr...gisterWord.htm .

I have an EU on Word97. When they open a word document from

explorer,
it
opens the document with a new DOCUMENT# (ie...DOCUMENT1,

DOCUMENT2)
and not
the original file name. When they open the file from within Word

when
its
running, the file opens with the correct name.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!!!!
