If you have Word 2003 or earlier, you can press
Ctrl+Alt+number-pad-minus to get the "destructive cursor" which looks
like a large bold minus sign, and which executes the
ToolsCustomizeRemoveMenuShortcut command on whatever menu item you
click next. Use it to click and remove the entries from the recent
files list. (This does not work in Word 2007.)
But be VERY careful with this! Read
http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/LostSymbol.htm before you begin,
so you know what to do if you remove the wrong item.
