Subject: when i scan to word i get a scrambled copy

When i scan a document to word it becomes scrambled and almost unreadable
so
much that it is impossible to edit.

Doug's answer is somewhat correct in that it's assuredly NOT a WORD problem,
howeverer. . . I do daily and extensive OCE scanning with a crappy $50 Canon
scanner utilizing Omni Page 9.0.

Did you save the scanned doc as UTF or a standard format?

OCR quality is deteremined by many more variables than the scanner and
software.
1) when's the last time you cleaned both sides of your scanner glass?
a) likley never
2) most new scanners are being shipped with a residue build-up on the
under-side of the glass. It's shabby quality control.
3) The quality of the material that you are scanning from?
a) is the paper aged or discolored?
b) Are you attempting to OCR and inkjet printed document?
c) there are many more variations in quality of materials.
4) Did you let the scanner warm-up before the actual OCR scan.
a) Most scanners require a preview scan and some scanners offering a
setting to determine the length of
time for warm-up.
5) OCR like most everything else has a learning curve.

There is a scanner NG were these items and more are discussed:
