Default list style name disappears

Like Pam, I can't reproduce this error either. Chances are that your
template is corrupt. Have you tried recreating it?

For more on document and template corruption, see

I simply access the list style from the reveal formatting pane's link
under
the bullets and numbering category. Since changes related to stylization
are
accessible in one spot, I find this a more efficient navigation point.

I kept the reveal formatting pane open, saw the list "disappear" after I
finished my changes. I then confirmed its absence under the multilevel
list
button; the list style is no longer showing in its gallery.

Thoughts?

Are you editing the list style by right-clicking its icon and choosing
modify?

I need to be able to preserve and edit a newly created list style in
Word
2007. I keep the reveal formatting pane open as I make the edits. This
new
list style's levels 1-6 are applied to the built-in Heading 1-6
paragraph
styles in a .dotm file I'm developing. When I try to edit the list
style, its
name will disappear from the reveal formatting pane once I've closed the
modify list style dialog. To avoid losing the list style, I choose undo,
which negates my changes.

What is going on and how can I stop this?
