Default Change font color from the keyboard

I am editing-rewriting a major document and want to insert text in a second
color. Each time I get to an insertion point do I have to go through the
tedious user interface to make the change? Is there a way to with some slick
keyboard fingering I could insert text in red without going through the
Format-Font-Color routine? Thank you for your help.
