Default Cross Reference Refresh

I have an end user that is using the Cross Reference feature on several
documents and claims that they intermittently do not update when changes are
made. Apparently F9 also does not force them to update.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Richard-

There is no "intermittently" about it... Cross References do not
automatically update, nor does F9 cause the updating unless a) you first
Select All to update all fields, or b) select the one cross reference (or
other type of field) you want to update before pressing F9.

BTW- To update just any particular one, the 'new-age' technique is to
Right+Click the Cross Reference & choose the Update Field command from the
contextual menu.

Thanks. The end user is actually using the r-click method. I do have
additional information though. What's happening is they are making a cross
reference to numbered paragraphs (e.g. 7.7(a)(i)) but only the first number
is updating not the sub-numbers of (a)(i). So you are correct there is no
"intermittent". That will teach me to use the terms of the end user
