copied file to cd is marked "read only"
the original file is NOT a read only as i am able to make changes, updates
without a problem. The CD is a CDR/RW. Found the folder/file attributes and attempted to turn off. Turned off "read only" and attempted to recopy to new disc- unsuccessful folder defaulted back to read only- and file inside folder is not a read only. would sure appreciate someone with the how to's - as it is obvious i am NOT familiar with this! |

You should not attempt to open Word documents from any sort of removeable
media. Use Windows Explorer to copy it to the hard disk and then change the attributes of it there. -- Hope this helps. copied file to cd is marked "read only"
The reason it automatically becomes "Read Only" is that in the majority (all
?) of cases, you can't open off the CD, edit the document, and then save it back to the CD from within Word - you have to save it to the hard drive, then save it to the disk with copying software. Don't edit the document when it is on the CD.
If you want to be able to use your documents, when working within Word, act as if your floppy drive does not exist! (This applies to CDRW/CDR drives as well.) Don't use Word to: Open a document on a floppy Print a document on a floppy Edit a document on a floppy Save a document to a floppy (not even a copy) Word regularly trashes documents on floppy drives! Instead, work on the document using your hard drive. Copy it back and forth using Windows. I know that for some with shared computers (libraries, schools) this is a tough prescription. All I can recommend for that is to use a brand new formatted disk each time you save and don't do any editing. -- Charles Kenyon Word New User FAQ & Web Directory: http://addbalance.com/word Intermediate User's Guide to Microsoft Word (supplemented version of Microsoft's Legal Users' Guide) http://addbalance.com/usersguide See also the MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/ which is awesome! --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- --------- This message is posted to a newsgroup.
