Word lost document
Dear Adviser,
By a false manouevre I have lost the most recent version of an important chapter to my book. An old version is on USB memory but the work done on the new version would take a month or more to re do apart from the mental and emotional strain of doing so. I am very down at heart. What happened - I think was while copying the main lines of the new chapter on to my old draft 'preface' doc I must have saved the preface under the name of the draft chapter and now have two preface's and no draft chapter. I closed down the computer to have lunch and discovered the loss when i started up later. Is there any way of retrieving the lost work? Greatly appreciate your assistance, Best for the New Year David |

The only hope I can add to alleviate what Bob has said is that many writers
confirm that rewriting usually goes much faster than the original composition and frequently results in a better version (because you are better organized and already have a clear idea of what you want to say). -- Suzanne S. Without knowing exactly what you did it's impossible to say for sure, but if you did, in fact, overwrite one file with another of the same name there is no hope of retrieving the original... Especially if you have since shut down the program. Further, if you also shut down the computer there is virtually no hope of recovering anything from a temporary file.
