Default Unformatted vs. formatted AutoCorrect Entries

I have been reading the MS KB articles, as well as reading this board, for
directions on copying auto text & auto correct entries from older systems 7
older versions of office to a Vista PC with Office 07. Thanks a lot, as I
understand that some entries are stored in the normal.dot template, while
other entries are stored in .ACL file. My question is what is the difference
between a "formatted" auto correct entry as opposed to a "unformatted" auto
correct entry? I need to put together some documentation and I want to be
able to differentiate for the users so they can copy the necessary files into
the appropriate locations.

Thanks a lot,

Default Unformatted vs. formatted AutoCorrect Entries

A "formatted" AutoCorrect entry is one that includes formatting. g This
might mean that part or all of it is formatted as italic, superscript,
subscript, etc., or that it contains characters outside the normal character
set (or in a different font). For example, if you start at the top of the
list of AutoCorrect entries and select each in turn, you'll see that the
registry symbol, trademark symbol, and ellipsis are not formatted: all these
characters are included in the character set for "normal text." But when you
select the entry, it is formatted because the "happy face" symbol that it
corrects to is from the Wingdings font. The same is true for the rest of the
emoticons and arrows that follow. Once you get to "abbout," you're back in
"unformatted" territory.

AFAIK, those characters at the beginning of the list are the only formatted
ones in the default set, but you may well have added some.
