How do you combine 21 documents in a folder into one document?
I have a draft novel that is currently divided into 21 chapters, all in one
folder. I need to combine those 21 chapters into a single file. Does anyone know how to go about doing this? |

Hi Linnet,
There are two ways: 1. copy & paste all the documents (in order) into a single document 2. use INCLUDETEXT fields in a new document to link to all the chapter documents. See Word's help file for more details. Alternatively, If all you need is a document with a table of contents, check out the TOC and RD fields. Again, see Word's help file for more details. Howdy, There certainly may be a more elegant way, but... With that modest number, why not open a blank doc, click Insert | File | and browse to Chapter 1. When you click on it, the first chapter will be added, then just repeat for each. All the best, -- Kenneth If you email... Please remove the "SPAMLESS." |

Insert file will do it, but you may find the boiler.dot add-in on my web
site a little more elegant. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Linnet wrote: I have a draft novel that is currently divided into 21 chapters, all in one folder. Thanks for this. Very helpful. I have Word 2007 and found I needed to follow
the path INSERT Object Text from file. After that it was all plain sailing. Many thanks.
