Default opening a word document

This is a second request. Not sure the first one made it. I have windows xp
and do not have word. But I do have the program for reading word, etc. But
everytime I try to open a word document I get a message saying a dialogue box
is open and must be closed before I can open the document. what does this
mean and how can I fix it. I need detail help....I am new to this. thanks

That means that there is something open that restricts Word viewer from
opening. I'd suggest rebooting your system then try opening that Word file
again.

I have rebooted the system a number of times and it doesn't make any
difference. I can't even open word documents transfered from my old
comoputor. That dialogue open box just keeps coming up. thanks ed

If you are using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office
Plugin that comes with it, but do not disable Norton AutoProtect). See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office programs
with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more information.
