How do you import data from MS project
I don't know Project (and cannot remember enough about Project 2003 or
earlier to tell you anything useful at all about those versions, but since no-one else has responded here, 1. You are much more likely to get a sensible response in a Project group. 2. You may be able to paste a LINK. a. have a look in Project's Help for the article "Link or embed Project information into another program" b. broadly speaking, that technique lets you Select various types of information from various types of View within Project, then Edit-Copy in Project and Edit-Paste Special in Word. Then in some cases you will be able to Paste something (a Project object, text, an image) and in some cases you may also be able to Paste a Link to the object c. if you can paste a Link, then the link should be "active" - i.e., a modification to the data in Project should result in a change to the Word document if it is already open or when you next open it, assuming that your links in Word are set to Automatic. Although this is a common enough process with Word and Excel sheets, I really can't tell you how well it works with Word and Project. d. Some simple tests suggest that if you paste Project Objects/diagrams into Word, they may be inserted as much smaller images than the ones you see in Project. You may be able to fix such stuff by formatting the picture. e. as a general rule, links that insert "objects" and or pictures have to fit on a single page in Word, so if you have a large list of information, you will almost certainly need to choose a format such as text or rich text in the Paste Link options. 3. If you are using Project Server, or your project still gets data from SQL Server, it may be possible to use Word's Insert-Database to insert a refreshable table of data from the underlying database used by Project. I think you used to be able to use an ODBC connection to do that in version 2003 and earlier, but Project Server 2007 appears much more oriented towards collaboration via Sharepoint and/or web services. Further, the "approved" way to do this kind of stuff these days would avoid use Insert-Database and probably involve development of a .NET and possibly VSTO solution that used Web services to get data from Project Server and insert it into Word. 4. You may also be able to use Excel as an intermediate format to help select/format the data the way you want before it reaches Word. That's getting so complicated that I wouldn't want to rely on it, but in essence you copy/paste special from Project to Excel, then use Excel formulas etc. to grab the data you need, then Copy/Paste Special into Word. You'd need to have both applications open while working on your Word document to do that.
