Default Word Won't Print to Network Printer

I replaced our old printer with a HP 4160 which is connected to a PC running
Win 98 SE. The other computer on the network is running Win XP. From the
Win XP computer, I can print a test page from Win XP to the printer, and I
can print from Notepad. When I try printing from Word 2003, I get "The
Printer Has Not Yet Responded...." If I tell Word to wait for a response a
few times, it eventually comes up with the printer. Everything looks OK,
but after I hit "OK" to print nothing ever happens. The little hourglass
sits there for a bit and then vanishes, and nothing prints.

This seemed like a Word 2003 problem, but I have installed all the Office
SBE 2003 updates and that didn't help.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the printer, and made sure I had
the latest drivers on both machines. I tried the printer directly connected
to the Win XP machine and it worked fine.

I am at a total loss at this point.

Thanks.

Your HP 4160 needs different printer drivers for Win98SE and
WinXP... be sure to use the correct driver for each computer.
Even though the printer is networked, the printer driver should
be installed locally on the individual computer's hard drive.

The correct printer driver is installed on each machine. The print problem
only seems to happen when we try to print from word. I can print a test page
from Windows XP, for instance.
