Auto Revision Numbers
We need to add a footer to certain documents that will show the name of the
person making the last modification and also a custom version number. I need help with the latter. I would like it to increment by letter, following the name of the document if possible. For example: mydocnameA.doc mydocnameB.doc mydocnameC.doc We are still using Office 2003. Thanks |

Hi PJ

Do you want to save the document itself under the revised name, or only show that thing in the footer? If the former: Graham Mayor has published a macro doing the former at: http://www.gmayor.com/save_numbered_versions.htm This could be adjusted to use numbering "A, B, ...", I'm sure. Then all you need to do is show a FILENAME field in the footer. The question is, though, _when_ you want this number to update (in either cases :-)). 2cents Robert -- /"\ ASCII Ribbon Campaign | MS \ / | MVP X Against HTML | for / \ in e-mail & news | Word |
