Default Editing an Excel DataSource

During the Mail Merge Wizard Process I have the option to 'Edit Recipient
List'. Yet when I click that link, the Edit button is dimmed. Why can I use
Word's Data Source Edit feature with a Word Data Source but not with an Excel
Data Source.
Don't tell me Microsoft can't integrate Word and Excel here!

Hi ?B?U3VlIEh1Z2hlcw==?=,

Word has always only been able to "edit" its own, native data source. Through
Word 2000 this was a Word table. From Word 2002 on it's been a special type of
*.mdb file.

So, no, Word can't edit other files or file formats within the mail merge
feature.
