When setting up a legal pleading with numbered lines, how do I change the
size of the font of the line number. Clearly, I can change the size of the
text font in the document, but not the font size of the line number. So, if
the text font is 13 pt as required by some courts (Los Angeles) how do I make
the line number font the same size? When using Word's "create your own
pleading" it allows for setting up everything but the font size of the line
number. That seems to default to a 9 pt font. If the line number font is
smaller than the text font of the document then it doesn't take long before
the lines and the numbers no longer line up, and besides it looks funny.

Modify the Line Number style and save the result in the template.

WordPerfect, yesterday, so I am not quite sure where to find the line number
style to modify. I seem to have modified any line numbering within the
document but not the template. Coulde you please step me through the steps
to the Line Number Style. Thank you so much.

- If you have Word 2000 or earlier, click Format Style. This directly
opens the Styles dialog. Click "Line Number" in the list and click the
Modify button.

- If you have Word 2002 or 2003, click Format Styles and Formatting,
which opens the Styles and Formatting task pane on the right. If you don't
see "Line Number" in that list, set the Show dropdown at the bottom of the
task pane to "All styles". As you hover the mouse pointer over "Line
Number", a down arrow appears to its right; click that and select Modify
from the menu. (Notice how much "better" the newer versions are... NOT!)

In either case, you now should see the Modify Style dialog. Just about in
the center of the dialog is a dropdown where you can set the font size. Also
put a check mark in the box near the bottom that says "Add to template", and
then click OK.

As I state in my signature, I don't take direct email questions.
Partly that's to cut down on the amount of email I have to process
when I get home from work. But mostly it's because keeping the
questions and answers in the newsgroup gives you the widest possible
access to the community's knowledge, not just from me but from all the
folks who post here regularly. At the same time, other people with the
same questions can read the answers (the newsgroups are archived on
Google) -- at least, we wish they would read first before posting. :-)

If changing the "Line Number" style doesn't work, try changing "Normal." Did
the trick for me.
