Default Anemic background application appearance

Hello Everybody,

This is not a question about how to change the background color or cosmetic
appearance of Word.

I have a problem with the background appearance in MS Word 2002. I'm
talking about the area outside the page. Specifically, the workspace outside
the document page area, as well as the toolbars and menu area. They are all
white.

I'm not trying to change color, or desktop theme. I'm perfectly happy with
the standard grey. My problem is, there is no background color at all - only
white with thin black lines outlining toolbar buttons, the document edge, etc
.. . . And on menus, there is no background color either, and some of the
display of menu options has such poor resolution I can barely read the print
on the screen. The total lack of contrasting color between my document and
the surrounding workspace and toolbars is annoying.

I've checked the appearance of all my other applicaitons, and they all
display perfectly fine - so whatever this is it is only affecting Word 2002.
For that reason, I'm thinking it's no use to go to control panel / display /
etc . . .

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Click on Start | Control Panel | Accessibility Options | Display
| uncheck the "Use high contrast" box | OK.

On the Display tab of Windows Control Panel | Compatibility Options, check
to make sure that "Use High Contrast" is not checked.

Dear Suzanne & Garfield n Oldie,

Thanks for the suggestion, but when I went into control panel /
accessibility options I found that my Use High Contrast checkbox was not
checked.

Any other ideas would be much appreciated.
