Answer: Why does space bar delete text instead of moving it?
The space bar is designed to insert a blank space between words or characters, not to move text. If you want to move text, you need to use the cut and paste function. Here's how to do it:
Alternatively, you can also use the drag and drop method to move text. Here's how:
Remember, the space bar is not meant to move text, so if you accidentally delete text while using it, you can use the undo function by pressing "Ctrl + Z" or clicking the undo arrow in the toolbar.

You have inadvertently activated Overtype mode, probably by pressing
the Insert key. Press it again (or double-click OVR on the status bar so that it greys out) to turn it off. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "tweety23" wrote in message news The space bar deletes the text after it instead of moving it along. |

press the [insert] key on your keyboard
or at the bottom of the screen there is a button that says OVR, click on that so that it is off. -- Chris Hayes Newby "tweety23" wrote: The space bar deletes the text after it instead of moving it along. |

Hi tweety23,
Probably because you've switched to overtype mode - you'll probably see that the 'OVR' on the status bar is black, rather than grey. Try pressing the insert key, or double-clicking the 'OVR'.
