How do I specify "page x of x" in a multi-section document?
I have a document that has multiple sections with separate page numbering.
The first section is numbered "page x of y". The second section is numbered "Exhibit A-1 of A-25", third section is "Exhibit B-1 of B-11", and so on. How do I do this in Word 2002? |

For example, let's say you put a bookmark at the end of the second section and call it EndExhibitA. Then in the header or footer of the section, change the "y" part of the "page x of y". Now it's probably a {NumPages} field; change it to {PageRef EndExhibitA}. The whole thing (with field codes displayed by pressing Alt+F9) will look like Exhibit A-{Page} of A-{PageRef EndExhibitA} Then in the third section you'd use Exhibit B-{Page} of B-{PageRef EndExhibitB} and so on. Just be careful not to delete the bookmarks (it helps to go to Tools Options View and check "Bookmarks" so you can see them on screen), and not to add more text after a bookmark that would leave the bookmark no longer on the last page of the section. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |
