Default Image questions when saving as html?

It seems to figure out which one is more appropriate and then use the other.
At least my experience is that if I embed a GIF, it is exported as a JPEG.

How does Word know to convert an image into a .gif or a .jpg?

Thanks.

1. Any kind for which MS provides converters. If Word balks at inserting
it,
you've hit an unsupported type.

2. Yes. See http://www.gmayor.com/extract_images_from_word.htm for one

use
of this.

using 2003:

1. What types of images can be inserted into a Word document?

2. Does Word convert non .gif and .jpg images that are inserted into a
document into .gif or .jpg files when saving a document
as html?

Thanks.
