Default How do I make file folder labels

I cannot figure out how to merge a bunch of individual names for file folders
to the Avery site.

Initially, I was able to print out some labels, but it was arduous, and then
not all the labels printed correctly.

I have the list of names in Word and I'd like not to have to copy and paste
or retype them.

Can someone help?

Thank you

In the Tools | Envelopes and Labels dialog, click Options..., and select the
correct Avery stock number for your filing labels. Click OK to return to the
Labels dialog and click New Document to get a sheet of labels, which you can
fill in as needed. They are set up as a table, so be sure you have table
gridlines displayed (Table | Show Gridlines) so you can see the label
boundaries.

Get your list in table form and run a mail merge through Tools, Letters and
Mailings, Mail Merge. Select Labels and follow the instructions in the task
pane.

Hi Suzanne,

I tried that, but it appears I still need to retype all my file names, which
numbers close to 100. Is there another way?

Thanks
Jan

Hi jkh

I tried that, but it would not work.

I want file labels, not mailing labels. I didn't see any options for file
folders.

Well, what I did was copy and paste the file names into the gridline spaces.
It was tedious, but I could not figure out another way to do it.

Can you tell me how to align them better for printing? They did not print
straight (I put the label form in straight), and they printed far too left.

Word doesn't differentiatiate between the different types of label. They are
all mailing labels. It is the shape and what you put on them that determines
how they are used. Use your label page as a basis for a mailing label type
merge:

In that case, a mail merge (as Graham suggests) is more appropriate.
