Default Word opens up a new document with two columns always?

Help! Every time I open up Microsoft Word 2000, with a blank document, the
document always is set to two columns, not the normal page with out any
columns. It was not always like this, so I am not sure what happened one day.
It is a hassle to change this everytime I start to type something.
