Default Word Disables Font

I downloaded a Hebrew font from the internet. The font appears in the list of fonts in Word. When I select that font and start typing, the font automatically defaults to Times New Roman and types accordingly. I tried the same with an English font, and it worked fine. I tried a different Hebrew font and the same problem occurred. If I make a selection and change the style so that the font is this new Hebrew font, then the font comes up as it is supposed to. When I try to then type with the new style, Word defaults back to Times New Roman. Changing the Normal and Normalpara styles does not do anything. However, it should anyway be unnecessary to change the Normal style to get a font to work.

The Hebrew font works fine in Notepad.

I have Windows 8.1 and Office 2007.

What is happening is that for any new Hebrew font, MS Word does not let you type in the new font, but defaults to Times New Roman.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you very much!
