Default footnote numbers

I would like to restart footnote numbering in a new section but start at a
number chosen by me that's not 1 and not the number following the previous
section. I have tables intervening that are in "abc" format and I want to
number footnotes in the new section using numbers following the last text
(non-table) section. I either get "1" or what the number would be if the
"abc" notes were all numbers.

There is an option in footnotes and endnotes that called "Start at:" that
allows you to start renumbering with any number you desire. Make sure you've
also selected Apply change to: This section.

Unfortunately, when you have a combination of footnote numbering by section,
footnotes at the ends of sections, and footnotes suppressed in some
sections, you'll find that getting Word to restart at a specific number in
only a specific section *does not work.*
