Annoying! :-(

Wouldn't deselecting "Use smart paragraph selection" work, or am I missing something here? -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote in message ... Wow! That's a very helpful tip. Thanks. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "Jugglertwo" wrote in message ... Just by luck, I discovered that if I use the Alt key, then I can highlight the word without selecting the paragraph symbol. Thanks! "Jugglertwo" wrote: thanks to all respondents for your expertise. It is appreciated ! "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: Unfortunately, no. This is Word being "helpful." No matter how carefully you omit the paragraph mark in your selection, it will be included anyway--at least if more than half of the paragraph is selected, or if the last word is selected. -- Suzanne S. Barnhill Microsoft MVP (Word) Words into Type Fairhope, Alabama USA http://word.mvps.org "Jugglertwo" wrote in message ... I appreciate the various responses. Is there any way to prevent the selection of the last return in the line? This seems to be the problem. Thanks again! "Jerry" wrote: First, click on the ¶ button on your toolbar to show the non-printing characters. Then select only the word itself and NOT the ¶ character at the end of the line. It often helps if there's a space after the word, but it isn't necessary. Then change the font color. If Word is stubborn and insists on coloring the number anyway, select the ¶ character at the end of the line and turn it back to black. Then tell your computer to behave itself, and you can get back to work. Jerry "Jugglertwo" wrote: Using Word 2003. I have number lists with a word like: 1. bread 2. butter 3. meat 4. candy When I color the word, the number is colored along with this. I can select undo and correct it but that is a pain. Is there some setting that will allow me to just pick the word, change its color, and not have the preceding number pick up the color? Thanks for any assistance with this item! Jugglertwo . |
