Default How to edit dropdown lists

In Word and Outlook 2002 my 'File' dropdown list suddenly no longer offers
the 'Open' option. All others are apparently there, but I'm not sure. The
'Open' symbol does the trick, but I'm a slave to habit and would like to see
'Open' again as an option on the 'File' dropdown list. Can you help?
