Default Word 97 keyboard help

Can anyone help me correct something that I have done with my word program?
When I hit any key a bold black line covers the line that I am typing. If is
hit one of the arrow keys the black line goes away and the letters I have
typed show. If I look in Print Preview, the entire document is black. Please
help me correct this problem.
Thanks
