Default Insert figures and get caption recognized

Hi,

I'm writing my MSc thesis and get to insert figures in word. I insert
figures from files (ex PDF), put a caption but then when I want to create the
table of figures, I get the error message "no entry". What am I suppose to do
to be able to create the table of figures?? It's like if the caption was not
seen by word. I'm using word:Mac, but I don't know which version exactly, I
think it's the 2003 but not sure.

Thanks

In most versions of Word, if you use Insert | Reference | Caption (or the
corresponding path for your version) with a wrapped graphic selected, the
caption is inserted in a text box. But the Table of Figures (in versions
before 2007) can't "see" text in text boxes. Yep, wonderful logic there.

You have to get the caption out of the text box. One way is to insert it
inline to begin with (in its own separate paragraph). Or you can cut the
text from the text box and paste it into a text paragraph, then delete the
text box. Or you can change the wrapping on the graphic so it's not wrapped,
and then the caption will be inserted inline. If you really need to wrap
text around the graphic and caption, a good compromise is to insert both
inline, then select them both and insert a frame (there's an Insert Frame
button on the Forms toolbar). Text will wrap around the frame, and Word can
see the text inside the frame.
