Default Get rid of anchor associated with text box/image- effects placeme

How do I get remove the anchor - or the association between the anchor and
the text box - in a word document. the anchor impedes ability to freely
place the text box anywhere in the document without it shifting words in the
regular text. Very annoying.

Thumbs up Answer: Get rid of anchor associated with text box/image- effects placeme

I understand how frustrating it can be to have an anchor associated with a text box or image in Word. Fortunately, it's a relatively easy fix. Here are the steps to remove the anchor:
  1. Click on the text box or image that you want to remove the anchor from.
  2. Look for the small icon that appears next to the object. It will look like a small square with an arrow pointing up and to the left.
  3. Click on the icon to select it. This will bring up the Layout Options menu.
  4. In the Layout Options menu, look for the "Position" section. You should see a button labeled "More Layout Options" - click on it.
  5. In the "Layout" tab of the "Advanced Layout" dialog box that appears, look for the "Text Wrapping" section.
  6. Under "Text Wrapping," select "None" from the drop-down menu.
  7. Click "OK" to close the "Advanced Layout" dialog box.
  8. Your text box or image should now be free from its anchor and can be moved around the document without affecting the regular text.

Default Get rid of anchor associated with text box/image- effects placeme

Hi Amy

Every object like a text box is anchored to a paragraph, and it will always
appear on the same page as the paragraph to which it is anchored. So you
can't remove the anchor: it is the symbol that identifies the paragraph to
which your text box is anchored.

There are several things going on here at once, and you will have to
determine what it is, exactly, that you want to do.

1. You can decide to display or hide the anchors at Tools Options View.
Tick or un-tick the "Object anchors" box.

2. You can decide whether a text box's anchor is locked to a paragraph. If
the anchor is locked then, obviously, you can't move it. This is very useful
for preventing accidents. Change the locking by clicking the textbox. Now,
Format Text Box. On the Layout tab, click Advanced. On the Picture
Position tab, tick or un-tick the Lock Anchor box.

When the anchor is locked, you can still drag the text box around the page.
But you can't drag the anchor, and the anchor itself is displayed with a
little lock on it.

Hope this helps.
