Default what setting in word to load all images even if not current page

When I open a document with several drawings included as bit maps, word tries
to conserve by only loading the bit maps that are in the current window.
This is annoying because each time I go to a new page, I have to wait for
5-10 seconds before it loads the image. I'd like it to load up all the
images when I open the doc. Is there a setting or some way to tell it to do
this?

Compress your pictures before placing into Word. Something like
www.irfanview.com might help significantly. BMP is a terrible format to use,
that is, if that's what you're using. They're very heavy electronically in
size compared to others.
