Footnotes in book chapters
I am working on a book manuscript and now have a number of separate chapters,
each of them with footnotes starting with 1, etc. I now want to combine the chapters into a single manuscript, but when I INSERT succeeding chapters they pick up the footnote number appropriate to being the next following the previous chapter. How can I have a single manuscript and mainstain separate footnote numbering for each chapter. No problem with page number because the chapters are still unnumbered. -- George Mandler Retired Professor U Calif, San Diego |

You need section breaks between each chapter. Then go to Insert | Footnote
(or Insert | Reference according to your version) and explore the dialog *thoroughly* looking for the setting that will let you "restart each section." (In versions pre-2002, it's hidden under Options).
