Default Microsoft Word "not responding" message

I'm using office professional edition 2003. I'm only having problems with
microsoft word. When I try to open documents already saved and attempt to
make changes to them or try to type on a blank document, word will lock up
and I get a "not responding" message. I have downloaded and installed all the
updates. I have also tried renaming the Normal.dot file, deleting the "data"
folder in word, and using the detect and repair feature in word...none of
these have worked. Any other solutions?

Check for add-ins which may be conflicting -

Remove any orphaned temp files

Update and/or reinstall the printerdriver.
