Default Word failed to start correctly the last time

Checking the Microsoft knowledge base, the cause seems to be interference
from MacAfee - BUT I DON'T HAVE MACAFFEE on my PC.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office several times, did an emergency
rebuild of XP-PRO, reinstalled Office again - NO CHANGE.

There must be a reason for this. A file held in limbo somewhere that doesn't
go away, perhaps?
