Answer: what does lock anchor mean in relation to textbox
When you insert a textbox in Microsoft Word, it is usually positioned relative to the text around it. However, if you want to keep the textbox in a fixed position on the page, you can use the "Lock Anchor" feature.
Locking the anchor means that the textbox will stay in the same position on the page, even if you add or delete text before it. This is useful if you want to add a textbox that contains a caption or footnote, for example, and you want it to stay in the same place on the page regardless of any changes you make to the rest of the document. Here's how to lock the anchor of a textbox in Microsoft Word:
Once you've locked the anchor of the textbox, you can move it around the page as needed, but it will always stay in the same position relative to the page, rather than the text around it.

what does lock anchor mean in relation to textbox
"Lock anchor" means that the anchor will stay linked to the
paragraph with which it is currently associated, no matter where you drag the graphic on the page. (By default, the anchor will jump to the nearest paragraph when you drag a graphical object). what does lock anchor mean in relation to textbox
All floating objects in Word -- including AutoShapes, pictures with text
wrapping other than in-line, and text boxes -- are attached or "anchored" to a particular paragraph of regular text. If you check the box in Tools Options View for "Object anchors" and select a floating object, the anchor point is indicated by an icon in the left margin. You can change the anchor point by dragging the icon, and sometimes by dragging the object itself, up or down the page. When the "lock anchor" option is checked, the anchor point can't be moved. A cardinal rule in Word is that a floating graphic must always be on the same page as its anchor. If text editing on preceding pages moves the anchor paragraph to a different page, the object will also move to that page to stay with the anchor. This is true regardless of the "lock anchor" setting -- that setting governs the relation between the anchor and a particular paragraph, not a particular page. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org Email cannot be acknowledged; please post all follow-ups to the newsgroup so all may benefit. |
