Lost the ability to make cross references to user defined captions
Ok this is a weird one. I've generated my own Figure and Table captions so
that they are formatted to be FIGURE and TABLE. This hasn't been a problem even for initial cross-referencing, List of Figures generation, etc. Sometime when I wasn't paying attention, Word (Windows 2003) lost the ability to form cross-references to these captions. My existing cross-references and List of Figures/Tables still function fine but if I either try to generate a new list or cross-reference my custom captions no longer show up in the selection box. It no longer even shows up in the insert caption selection box and allows me to redefine it. When I do this, however, the field code looks like "{ SEQ FIGURE_ \* ARABIC }" instead of "{ SEQ FIGURE \* ARABIC }" for the initial captions. This does now place "FIGURE" in all the selection boxes but this doesn't help me at all. Any ideas? Greg |

Lost the ability to make cross references to user defined captions
I think this might actually have some relation to my use of hidden CRs with
my caption. I had initially generated the captions as "FIGURE ..." then inserted the hidden CR between the "FIGURE " text and the actual number to allow a cross-reference to just the number part. I know I generated the cross-references after the fact, but the way Word inserts the user captions into the selection boxes now seems to be confused because of the hidden CR character. Removing the hidden CR doesn't fix the problem though. I feel like Peter Sellers asking, "Do you have a room?" Greg "guyeda" wrote: Ok this is a weird one. Lost the ability to make cross references to user defined capt
I found a solution: I simply opened a new file and redefined the same custom
captions. This set-up the correct field codes and placed them in the selection boxes. For whatever reason, the selection boxes carry over to my other file and I can now make lists and cross-references again. I apparently had to ask for a zimmer.
