I'm not exactly sure what these symbols are called but I have inadvertently
done something within a word document and now every single return/enter key
that I have done, there now appears a strange looking symbol. It looks like
a double bar with a black blob at the top of it. How can I change it so
these enter strokes are not visible? I've looked at the view tools section
of the top menu and cant see anything obvious.

In Word, click on Tools | Options | View tab | uncheck the boxes
for "All" and "Paragraph marks" | OK. See
